At the end of 1980’s the Castle and the Querceto estate became the property of the children of Marchese Leonardo Ginori Lisci Maria Teresa, Paola, Francesca and Lionardo Lorenzo, who took over the management of the estate with the aid of his nephew Luigi Malenchini, graduated in Agriculture. Lionardo Lorenzo gave a vigorous boost to the management making it more efficient, adding new cultivation and modernizing mechanization. In 1997, after attentive pedo-climatic survey of the soil, land plots were chosen to plant the new vineyards and it was decided to plant autochthonous vines such as Sangiovese and allochthonous vines such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. From the beginning the idea was not to be influenced by the trends of the market but to reluy on vines that would express the original taste of this still rather unknown territory. Therefore grape varieties like Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon were chosen because they ripen particularly well in the warm sunny climate of the Maremma. In the winter of 1999 the first vines were planted and were entrusted to the bailiff Massimo Piccini, born in Querceto and therefore an expert of its land and climate. When the vineyards began to be productive it was found necessary to leave the old cellars and to create a more modern and efficient establishment. In the village buildings were found which could be used with success to create a full of charm but functional wine cellar.
