Climate and pedo-climatic characteristics

Marchesi Ginori Lisci

The soil is of average consistency and tends to be slightly argillaceous, with a layer of surface gravel which is 1 meter deep. The pH is in the neutral range and is well supplied with active limestone.

The exposure of the vineyards is east/west

Annual amount of rainfall is approximately 700 mm., mostly during the months of November and April. During late spring-summer, when rain is scarce, back-up irrigation is used to maintain the water balance of the vineyards and this is achieved with a drip irrigation system.

The winds, which are rather frequent due to nearness to the sea, are, however, mitigated by the hills which separate the vineyards from the Tyrrhenian coast, thus limiting the flow of saltish currents.
